My Dream Wedding

May 19, 2016

I'm a little weary of even writing this blog post because as a BYU student (and just a Mormon in general) marriage and weddings are talked about a lot. And as a BYU student who has been dating a boy for a substantial amount of time (relatively), I get asked literally daily when I am getting married. Please do not read into this and assume that I am leaving breadcrumbs for you to figure out that I am getting married because although I hope that will eventually happen someday, I am not really planning on it right now.
I mean I guess I am kinda planning on it since I'm about to tell you all my dream wedding, but my point is that it's not happening anytime soon and this is all for kicks and giggles.

The boy: TBD.

The colors: Probably like yellow and black and grey.

The dress: I am like 97% sure that I am going to make my own wedding dress, and I have in mind exactly what I would want. I haven't really found anything casual enough and the exact look that I want, but I do know some things: I want it to be more of a cream color, knee length, shift lace dress with 3/4 sleeves. Specific, huh? I get to be though if I'm gonna make it myself, right?

Something kinda like this but longer and imagine my face there.

The backup dress: I mean really, this would be my first choice, but unless I can get my hands on the dress that Kiera Knightley wore in Pride & Prejudice (assuming it would fit me), which I assume I can't, then we'll go with the above description. NGL I wouldn't be mad about a Jane Austen themed wedding though.

The suit: I just think black is classy so I'm all for black on black on black with maybe a tasteful yellow or grey tie or something. Although I also really like this...

The shoes: Either my saltwaters or my cowboy boots (clearly I'm not planning on a winter wedding).
I'm not saying I would wear my cat socks, but I'm not saying I wouldn't...

The ring: If you haven't read my anti-diamond blogpost yet, that'll probably help you understand me a lot better. I just want a plain sterling silver thin band.

The hair: I am a big encourager of people looking like themselves on their wedding day. Well friends, here's a little secret about me: I shampoo and condition my hair and brush it in the shower and then let it air dry. I'm serious. The other day I got my nails done with Melissa and I wanted them to wash my hair at the salon because showering is a lot of work and she was like "you don't want it styled?" and I was like "no" and she was like "you know you're gonna leave with wet hair, right?" and I'm like "yeah that's what I do everyday of my life" (this makes me sound really rude but I promise it was a jolly conversation). The point is, I'm just gonna do that the day I get married because that's how I look. And maybe I'll throw in a flower crown (sunflowers, of course) for good measure.

The makeup: Like above!!! I will do my own make up. I will put on my foundation and concealer and mascara, the same that I do every time I do makeup. Alena is silently judging me for this as a makeup aficionado.

The flowers: 87% sure I'm just gonna run to a Tom Thumb the day of and get some sunflowers (my favorite) to use as a bouquet. If I don't do that and get an actual bouquet, then I'm a fan of sunflowers and daisies (don't you think daisies are the friendliest flowers? (name that movie)) but who even knows what those look like together (not me but I'm sure somebody does).

The bridesmaids: I mean, the actual people will probably change between now and then, but I think I would just tell them "yo wear a black dress" and hand them some of those sunflowers from Tom Thumb. Also I will definitely be that person who brings their dog to their wedding (hi Bluebonnet).

The cake: I hope my future husband likes cheesecake...

The invites: I'll either make these myself or have the talented Alena Rose make them but I want postcards for my invites. 1) They are cheaper and 2) they're cute.

The instagram caption: Some reference to the end of Tangled when Flynn is like "after years and years of asking, I finally said yes"

The centerpieces: ???

The food: I'm having Chipotle cater. And I will be eating some. And taking home the leftovers.

Other random things: I'm toying with the idea of throwing confetti because that would look great in pictures lol (no shame). Maybe disposable cameras (hopefully this doesn't turn into a Friends situation, ya know what I'm saying?). Probably lots of Tangled references (see quote above).

The favors: Sunflower seeds! Not to eat (although I do like those a lot), but like to plant.

The honeymoon: Disney, although Disney in Paris would be extra fun but not necessary.

I dunno guys, weddings are expensive. And even reading through this, I feel like I want a very casual wedding but I still feel like I would never be able to afford that so hopefully my future husband is rich (or I am? #feminism). This blogpost doesn't really have a point, maybe it's just a reference for me to look back on and maybe even laugh at after I'm married. Because really, the marriage is the only important part of the wedding, but I want cute pictures too.

Yours truly,
McKay

  1. I agree that people should look like themselves during their graduation pictures and wedding pictures and just all the important events. Also, smudged make up is easy to fix if it's your everyday look.

I also want something like postcaeds as invites. Your blogpost made me find the word for what i want. Haha. Because tbh, fancy invites do not fit into Foto albums. Fancy invites get less fancily thrown away *cough*.

Also, yes on the cheesecake. Hahahaha. I want layers of cakes: several trays layered artfully like a wedding cake. Probably among those cakes will be cheesecake, Bienenstich (German buttercake topped with glazed almonds and with a vanilla pudding filling), brownies or chocolate cake, some Filipino cake (like Cassava Cake). Yes, i want to eat all the things. XD
